Hotter than July

So it goes. July 2nd. Leftover hot chocolate from the flask in hand.

S, 7,  painted this late last night in what regular readers will know is her now pretty well established creatively burst slot. 9pm on a Sunday. Late night learning in action.
It is the view of Halnaker Windmill that we saw on our way to Goodwood yesterday and an artistic first for S in that it is one of her first paintings to feature no gap between sky and land so the page is completely filled with colour. Because you can see the sea from the top of the downs near Goodwood  this might have been a a bit of a catalyst,

Most of the rest of Sunday was about a second epic nose bleed explosion from E and watching two films first Rio, surely the best soundtrack of any kids film ever. No surprise then to see Sergio Mendez name checked on the credits. and second Raiders of the Lost Ark in an effort to sit him still and prevent further eruptions.

This Monday morning we headed to Warnham Nature Reserve in the hope of repeating last year's baby frog success. As close to the full moon as I could manage we didn't see a single one but, right at the end, E spotted some lizards in the water which of course turned out to be newts. As they are endangered in England that was a pretty cool spot. Saw some moths too including this Cinnabar.

They do have a very cool new bug house at Warnham.

July is operation frugal austerity month in a bid to save some pennies for the cluster of birthdays and Christmas later in the year so we took a picnic including flask of hot chocolate and coffee today and had planned to make a day of it heading home via the skate park and cycle track in Billingshurst but, first diagonally then horizontally, the rain came stopping gallivanting play. Which brings me back to where I started.

In Other News

We watched "Harry Potter: Order of the Phoenix" with S on Saturday night and this quote really struck me

"Facing this stuff in real life is not like school. In school, if you make a mistake, you can just try again tomorrow, but out there, when you're a second away from being murdered or watching a friend die right before your eyes, you don't know what that's like."

The reason being of course that people often inquire of home educators how they expect to cope in the "real world" and Harry tells it how it is!
