A whole week has past since my last blog post! The fortieth milestone has been passed and a little holiday to Center Parcs with the trio, TDO and G&G has been enjoyed.
The gallivanter's journey to Center Parcs was a bit of a nightmare, taking twice as long as anticipated as severe rain caused an accident and had consequently closed part of the A27, a road we were hoping to use to make our journey, but we made it.
A great place for a holiday with young children we have enjoyed: swimming, cycling, wildlife, slides, mini bowling, table tennis, mini indoor golf. Great to have so many extra adult hands around opening up many more options.
On the second day E lost his first ever wobbly tooth which went from wobbly to out in record time. Struggled a bit with E on occasions this week, he doesn't like change (or pooing in strange toilets!) and his behaviour has been a bit up and down. One night we were away he didn't really sleep at all which was very tough the next day. No longer do I have a baby son and a toddler son but now it has the possibility of becoming like a stag night of testosterone at moments notice.
Weather wasn't too bad, there was more rain, in fact I can't recall a year when the weather surrounding my birthday period has been so poor, but we made the best of the clear days outside.
S enjoyed the Wonder Woman DVD we took along, interestingly it was set in second world war period as that was a topic she was enjoying pre-holiday.
My actual birthday was lovely, woke to find the villa decorated in blue and white, S and E had found keeping secrets difficult and were visibly relieved when the gifts were unwrapped.
On the way home today we broke the journey with two stops, one at an old university friend of mine whose wedding I was a bridesmaid at 12 years summers ago and the second at a National Trust Property Mottisfont for their late Summer opening designed because Mottisfont houses the national collection of old fashioned roses, they were beautiful but the poor weather has obviously taken its toll here too.
Interesting holiday for a people watcher like me, spotted a very number of children with security blankets and toys, chatted to parents who had had to return one for a forgotten comforter called "lamby." Our people before things style of parenting once stood us out and in a mainstream environment we felt like the only ones who were: breastfeeding, cosleeping, slinging, not struggling to erect the hire cots, baby led weaning but here at ages 3, 5 and 7 we seemed to blend in more, in fact there were way more school age children than on our previous term time visit when I felt we really stood out more.
My 40th birthday cake. A 6 month old fruit cake is under these beautiful sugar sweet peas. Sweet peas and roses are my seasonal birthday bouquet and they were the first flowers from her garden my Granny bought to my Mother after my birth 40 years ago

Forgot to mention how much S enjoyed seeing Stonehenge (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stonehenge) on the way home and how, just as we drove into our village, S spotted a glorious rainbow - A great end to the journey as she has been looking for one for days.
TDO's photos are much better than mine - might do another post :)
Happy birthday! Looks like a lovely holiday. We're going to Center Parcs in July, can't wait!. Freddie lost a tooth in the swimming pool there last year xx
