"Bad enough being beaten, but beaten by a girl!"
No silence today, it was not just without the children yesterday but with the power off too in the afternoon the absence of electrical buzz was striking. So it goes. When I left you yesterday we were heading off to meet the trio and my parents for supper at a halfway point. Towards the end of the meal E started to fall asleep in restaurant, well, he had been up since 5am. As he weighs in at about 35kg I thought I'd just take him back to the car, whilst he could still walk, rather than try and carry him but suddenly everyone left with me as there was big drama as the staff thought we were leaving with out paying.
S, TDO and I watched the black and white film of Anne of Green Gables when we arrived home as S has enjoyed the book, possibly because she shares hair colour in common with the main character Anne (although luckily not the schoolish stereotypes of her temper!)- "Is this from when you were young?" she asked us. I think the film was made in the thirties but set in 1908 or so! Cheers S!!
S & E have been Filming on their smart phones today - TDO said he was 16 before he saved up for a camcorder - technology is changing everything. They make cute little films of their toys acting out scenes often mimicking the ones they have seen on youtube. They are not in the same groove though with S waking around eight normally their patterns are a little out of whack.
S has been learning words to Boudicca song from Horrible Histories by playing it over and over again (I remember doing that - winding tapes and positioning the needle on vinyl was a lot less instant though! We have talking about the Boudica sculpture on Westminster bridge by Thomas Thornycroft .
We might incorporate it into our next London day.
S wonders if she is descended from Boudicaa because of the red hair and wants to investigate what became of her daughters. Autonomous Sapphire driven learning. Fabulous.
All of the new clothes I bought yesterday both fit and are very popular - phew - Well done me! S loves her new jeans - the comfy ones and the trendy ones - we had a good chat about the sacrifices people have made for fashions - she knows more than me that this has happened far back into our history. I was saying to TDO this morning that I didn't want to have to say "If you wear that you can't take it." and TDO made me laugh, he says his self policing is so ingrained from growing up in a tumble drier less childhood he does that automatically! It is great to see E in colour - He is very drawn to the warm reds, oranges and yellows. It would be so very sad to see him in uniform grey.

It has been seriously windy - whilst TDO was checking on our peas at the allotment we bought the first peas in the pod from grocer in the village

It is so easy to do things with one offspring in tow. E and I toured the: library (more Batman - we have 18 of these superhero comic novels now and S really likes them too - she's finished the latest one already!) - grocers, health shop, wine merchant
(balance in all things ;--) and it really struck me today that sweets were everywhere. In all of those places in various forms. How is one to make an informed choice - E was so excited about the peas until he had to navigate past the piles of sweet treats to pay for them. Then E had his
first wobbly tooth "There's something in my mouth that's really annoying
me Mum" - so I had a look and see - I am so happy to be around at these moments, not just the walking and talking milestones that are important. I was relieved he was
not in a classroom. He was genuinely a bit freaked out and it was great to be able to calm his fears straight away.
We came home to find TDO reading with Baby Small
Helmet with weed from Usborne book via some spilit pins

The photos don't really do it justice - when it's dry I'll take some of it being modelled! The project is from the Usborne book my Mum picked up on her recent visit to Alnwick Castle. S asked Weed last week if they could make one this week and she duly obliged. Brilliant. E has been into knights for quite some time now.
E was up at 4am today. Wide awake straight away! argh!
S enjoyed this William Morris Stained glass colouring book Weed bought along today. She has also been experimenting with magnets around the house. (hopefully not too near the TV!)
There, normal home ed service resumed. An autonomous style of Home education is not something we might do, are considering or doing with an end date of set age in mind. We are doing it! Coming to you LIVE!

The son of Thomas (sculptor of Boudicca) was Hamo - he was also a sculptor and made several london landmarks but of interest to us his son lived in the village where my parents live
