Trust Me

Following a tip off from fellow blogger Angela at the Masterplan and Me about home educators National Trust membership for only £36 we have today joined and visited our first NT House. Only 5 miles west in Petworth. The third member in the trio of PH's after Parham and Pallant Houses last week.

Really impressed. We met up with some lovely home educating Friends of ours and started with a stroll (adults) run (children) around the gardens admiring the: bluebells, rhododendrons and Narcissus and then into the main house which has a fabulous collection of old paintings (very much to S's taste) and sculptures. In each room there is a box for children including the dressing up (in the photos) which matches to paintings on the wall and a mini Petworth house with furniture to arrange. S adored these and was annoyed not to spend longer playing especially once she discovered a small doll in her pocket who was just the right size. She also spotted a Medusa and Hercules along the way. E, 5,  was great in the house. I was worried that he might be scared of the dark bits or just too jumpy and loud but he picked up on the relaxed and friendly vibe from the staff and was very at ease.

Art, History and a little bit of fresh air with a quick picnic lunch before the rain came. Home via the library which was a bad move and a step too far for everyone :(.

We had a delayed family movie night last night. "How to Train Your Dragon" and the people version of "101 Dalmations" to end the mini staycation. Despite an enjoyable morning it has not been easy today, struggling with being the solo adult again. Spinning Plates. Always Spinning Plates.

This afternoon we have made more gingerbread cookies.

 Prince Regent and Gulliver.

We plan to return and spend more time matching the dressing up outfits to the paintings that inspired them and also I noticed a garden shop!

E graviates towards the outdoor sculptures (as usual)

These delicate, star narcissus really caught my eye. They appeared to have fallen from space!

Lovely. How do you find out about the home ed discount membership? we love these kind of trips but are put off by the price of memberships usually. We tend to rotate between some of the local children's farms etc when they have good deals on annual passes or ask for these type of things as christmas presents, which gets us some strange looks from family members

Here you go Serendipity - I took the form along with me today and joined but you can do it by post I think.

£36 for the whole family for a year - term times and weekdays only but that suits us just fine!!
