Electric Avenue

I just knew that stock pile of illy tins would come in handy. It is hard to see the fallen tree in this photo but I couldn't go any closer due to the power cables in the road.

Electric Avenue

Warmth is radiating from the radiators, brightness from the lights, a hatrick of white goods in the kitchen are performing their cleaning magic whilst the oven gently bakes a potato or two. The television is selling us things, vacuuming has been dysoned, I am blogging, the library are able to leave messages alerting us to books awaiting collection. In short normal service is resumed. In fact the only casualty from 24 hours without power appears to be a rather large amount of ice cream. Way more ice cream that I realised we had in our freezer and an embarrassing quantity to detail on an insurance claim form. When a friend offered freezer space this morning I squeezed the meat, thinking value over volume I guess, and that remained solid and E's mini fig men are rock hard too.

We arrived home from Fishers Farm to see a light on upstairs. Hooray for electricity. We were a little over 24 hours without it judging by timers.

In myself I feel pleased that I remembered the unschooling 101 basic of principles over rules and preserving the relationship all the time. I didn't have any firm New Year's Resolutions in my mind and was able to mostly relax and enjoy the experience. That, in my opinion, is an important life lesson, for The Smalls. When I read back over previous blogs and see how, in under a year, we have had car crashes and falling down stairs to contend with it becomes clear to me the importance of not loosing the plot during times of crisis and again Hooray for many of our choices. Co-sleeping without central heating in action is surely the only way. I hope when S is older she will remember us reading "The Secret of Platform 13" under the covers by torch light until my arm ached from holding the torch rather than Mummy being grumpy because it was cold and dark. It is a great book by the way, some say J K Rowling 'borrowed' the idea for the Kings Cross Portal in Harry Potter from it.

Glad you finally got your power back, although what a great learning experience for the children who seemed to totally embrace it all! Hubbu is very delayed getting back from Sussex tonight, lots of train delays!
