Under The Sea (Homer Simpson's Version)

You can just see O's Tow Mater from Cars Cars driving through the stones on the beach Breaded prawns and garlic dip at Sea Lane Cafe in Goring.
So, what's happened in the last 24 hours? Well S, 6, wanted to watch the first part of Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows last night, I thought The Daddy One was all geared up for the glamour that is Gardener's World but then he suggested the film! Regular readers will know we have been rather making it up as we go along on this area, we made a mistake initially telling S that she could watch the films when she had read the books. In hindsight this was daft because (a) the books are scary than the films and (b) we watch films together as a family not on our own in our rooms like we might read. Anyway, short story long she read the first six books and watched the first six films and I couldn't find the 7th book "The Deathly Hallows." Then one day, at a home ed friends house, S told me she needed the loo and I saw her whisk past the bookcase grabbing a copy of the book she had spied on the way in. I followed her to the loo and explained that whilst we might read our own books on the loo not everyone thinks that this is a great idea, so we bought her a fresh copy which she read a couple of months ago and we had been looking for a chance to watch the film and last night it appeared as the boys were sleeping BUT Baby Small kept waking up, so whilst the Daddy One was a constant companion I had to journey up and down the stairs several times. Personally I thought parts of the film were pretty scary but S kept telling me that it isn't real and poly~juice potions don't really work in real life etc etc. I guess I just never really anticipated a six year old that would read so much, so fast hence the making it up as we go along.

The film is rated 12A which means that the film censor crew advise that you are 12 to watch it but with an accompanying adult you can see it at any age. I see a future involving the path to adult hood lengthening in England, already the school leaving age has been increased to 18 as has the age to start driving lessons. It seems so contradictory that our culture is simultaneous promoting early sexuality whilst raising the bar on entry to adult life. I have come to understand that the attitudes we have will be important in the not to distant future. I can see temptations all the way to lie about age. It is free on the train under age 5, free to enter certain amusement parks under age 3 and so on but is lying about your age the right approach? When it comes to pubs, night clubs, porn films and having sex? At this stage it becomes a bigger deal. There are those that believe that any legislation at all is inappropriate in this area.

Anyway, that was last night, this morning I whizzed up to the butchers first thing and shortly after I returned my in-laws, the children's paternal grandparents, arrived, just after 9am. We had a while at home then headed to Sea Lane Cafe in Goring for a gorgeous lunch inside and ice cream outside in the wind!

This afternoon I helped S & E with their Halloween match box swaps, drank tea and chatted. I have been sensible this time and filed away the photos, as last time I thoughtlessly uploaded them before our swap partners little package had arrived in the post so you'll have to wait to see them.

In Other News

E is having a growth spurt

S's adult teeth are forming really fast

It is still 17 to start driving lessons-the rumour about the increase to age 18 has been going around for years.....in fact you can (if you have the money and inclination) learn to drive at Dunsfold aerodrome from the age of 14...(how scary is that ?!)
Food looked scrummy at the Sea Lane Cafe btw x

Thanks for that. I assumed it had changed already. You can learn early in a mini at Goodwood near us and at Mercedes Benz world near my parents. Food at Sea Lane Cafe is always yum. There is a photo of the cakes on an earlier post. They are huge.

Check out the variations in the age of sexual consent in Europe http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ages_of_consent_in_Europe You can have sex but no vintage movie star cigarette afterwards.

And unrelated to the muddle that is the transition through the legal hoops to adulthood by mother in law mentioned today that in Camberley town centre last week she heard a community police officer asking truancy questions to a young boy with his Grandma.
